Saturday Selections: Outdoor Book Festival & Edible Garden
The Metro Moms are hoping the rain and tornadoes stay away this weekend so we can enjoy outdoor festivals. The weekend forecast calls for temps from high sixties to mid-eighties with a chance of thunderstorms. Here are our top picks:
- Surround your kids with scribes at the fifth annual Jersey City Book Festival this Saturday, September 22nd from 10am-5:30pm. Soak in the spoken word as authors read aloud, listen to short stories and outdoor music at Van Worst Park. See more at the Jersey City Free Public Library website.
- Science = art? Show your kids the beauty of a neutron star exploding in droplets of light this Saturday, September 22nd and Sunday, September 23rd at the Art of Science exhibit. Then get in the Halloween spirit with a 45-minute movie, Spookley the Square Pumpkin. The exhibit is free, movie tickets are $3.50 for ages 3-8. Visit the Liberty Science Center website for exhibit and movie details.
- Harvest and cook from an edible garden with chef Mario Batali at the Edible Garden Festival on Sunday, September 23rd from 10am-5pm. Cooking demonstrations, delicious organic snacks and kid activities like decorating a harvest bag. Admission is $15 for kids and $30 for adults, details are at the New York Botanical Garden website.
Looking for more weekend fun? Dress the kids in Halloween costumes and rock out to the Fuzzy Lemons at the Healthy & Green Halloween bash.
