Seasonal Health and Wellness – Do You Know How to Protect Your Family’s Wellbeing?

by Dr. Kathia Roberts

As a Doctor who assists many patients with individualized cleansing, purification and detoxification processes, I am often asked: “What can I do to eat well, without incurring the high cost of organic produce?”

Before I give you my answer, consider this:

At the end of the day, what is your health worth? Think about how much you spend on convenience foods and eating out.

Our bodies can accumulate up to 6 pounds of waste in our colon.

I organize cleanse groups throughout the year, and the most important take-away is how surprised my participants are when they notice how tasty organic, fresh produce is and how healthy it makes them feel.

So my answer is naturally to encourage you to begin eating seasonally, local and organic.

Search for small, local CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture Programs), local harvest food co-ops, or farmer’s markets. Many local markets are “almost organic” and are much less expensive than “organic” produce at the local supermarket. Smaller farms are considered “almost organic” because these smaller farms cannot afford the full cost of organic certification but follow organic growing methods.

Secondly, eat what is in season and what’s been picked ripe to ensure a full-spectrum nutrient supply.

You can get away with foods that are not organic, provided you discard the skin and wash thoroughly. There are, however, some foods that you really should consider either buying organic or opting for substitutes that have less toxins, but the same nutrients. These include:

  • Apples
  • Celery
  • Cherries
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Peppers
  • Potatoes
  • Strawberries
  • Spinach

Pesticide and herbicide residue can cause birth, congenital and heart defects in newborns. For the rest of the family, the presence of residue may manifest in abdominal pains, vomiting, diarrhea, migraines, depression, inflammation, allergies, and lethargy.

Avoid health issues by eating seasonally, local and organic.

The first weight you lose while on a cleanse, besides fluid you have retained, is toxin waste. We can cleanse by just going green and eating more wholesome, organic foods. Eating organic wholesome foods is the most beneficial way to eat and can bring about major changes in the body.
